Carrier Helps Customers Prepare for F-Gas Transition with New Rooftop Solution

What is the Carrier WeatherFlex™ 50FC R-454C rooftop unit? Carrier has launched the WeatherFlex™ 50FC R-454C, a new rooftop unit for applications from 20 to 50kW designed to help commercial customers prepare for the next phase of Europe's F-Gas transition. Carrier is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

With European F-Gas requirements expected to tighten from 2027, certain rooftop applications are anticipated to require refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) below 150. Using R-454C, an A2L-classified refrigerant with a GWP below 150, the WeatherFlex 50FC has been developed to help customers prepare for forthcoming European refrigerant requirements while delivering energy-efficient performance and installation flexibility.

Designed for both new-build and retrofit projects, the WeatherFlex 50FC features factory-programmed controls for simplified installation alongside configurable options including free cooling, heat recovery, variable ventilation and extended airflow. Variable-speed scroll compressors and an optimised system design improve seasonal efficiency (SEER and SCOP) helping customers reduce energy consumption while supporting reliable operation from -18°C to +50°C.

Integrated smart controls, multi-zone management, energy metering and connectivity through Carrier's Abound HVAC platform also give building operators greater visibility of system performance to support more informed operational decisions.

Carrier’s Marketing Product Manager, Rooftop & Packaged, Natividad Molero, said: "Customers are looking for HVAC solutions that make the transition to lower-GWP technology easier, without adding complexity to their projects. This new rooftop generation is designed to support that shift with reliable performance, efficient operation and easier integration into commercial buildings."
