Carrier air conditioning systems consist of one outdoor unit and up to five indoor units. Two variants can be distinguished depending on the number of indoor units:
Single-split air conditioners: outdoor unit and indoor unit
Multi-split air conditioners: outdoor unit and two to five indoor units
The refrigerant circuit described above is divided between the outdoor and indoor units, which are connected to each other via thin pipes. One advantage of split units is that certain components are not located inside the building. The compressor in the outdoor unit, for example, always causes a certain noise level during operation, even if this plays a subordinate role in modern Carrier appliances. These also feature inverter technology, which adapts the output to the current cooling requirement, thereby saving energy.
