Carrier AquaSnap^® 30RBP400 air-cooled scroll chillers with dual variable speed pumps, soft-start and coastal coil protection have been installed at a twice outstanding-rated heart and chest hospital in the UK.

The specialist heart and chest hospital serves 2.8 million people across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. Providing safe, secure and well-ventilated environments where patients can receive the highest quality clinical services is vital to ensure the hospital continues to deliver the highest levels of care.

The Solution

Three Carrier AquaSnap^® 30RBP400 air-cooled scroll chillers, with a combined cooling capacity of 1,164kW, were installed by a Carrier Advantage programme member as part of a major renovation project.

Proven for offering superior reliability, the AquaSnap^® air-cooled scroll chillers with dual variable speed pumps, are a popular solution for hospitals and healthcare facilities due to their optimal performance at full and part-load, low sound level and energy savings. The chillers were fitted with soft-start control to eliminate peak demand penalty costs and reduce mechanical stress, thus providing extended life expectancy of all system components.

To safeguard the units from corrosion, Carrier’s Enviroshield flexible epoxy coil coating was applied to the condensing coils, which completely encapsulates and isolates the aluminium metal of heat exchangers from the surrounding environment, further extending their working life.

Compact and simple to install, the chillers were lifted into position on the building’s rooftop with extended-lift cranes from street level. With a low CO₂ environmental impact, energy efficient solutions like the AquaSnap^® chiller range, support Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social and Governance goal to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton.
